The UK circuit is school-led in a way the US circuit is not. The flagship events are hosted by schools themselves: Haileybury’s March conference is the largest school-hosted Model UN in the country, and Royal Russell in Croydon has run a residential THIMUN-affiliated conference every October since before most university conferences existed. Dublin’s SAIMUN, run by St Andrew’s College since 1988, is Ireland’s equivalent.
The famous university names still appear on the calendar, but mostly for university students: LIMUN in London is the largest collegiate conference in Europe, though its foundation also runs a separate high school conference, and Cambridge’s CUUNA organizes a September conference for school students alongside its collegiate CUIMUN.

Haileybury MUN, Royal Russell IMUN, Bath’s BISMUN, SPSMUN in London, and ReiMUN in Surrey are all school conferences, and SAIMUN in Dublin covers Ireland. Most UK school conferences follow THIMUN-style or similar procedure: delegates lobby and merge resolutions before debate begins, and the emphasis falls on consensus rather than individual awards. American-style conferences center on moderated caucuses and competitive awards. A delegate moving between the two systems should expect to relearn the flow of debate.
Many give fewer awards than US conferences or none at all, reflecting the THIMUN tradition of valuing consensus-building over individual competition. Some school conferences do commend outstanding delegates, so check each conference’s own materials if awards matter to your goals.
