New England packs more university-hosted Model UN into a smaller area than any other US region. Harvard MUN, BosMUN, and MITMUNC all run within a few miles of each other between late January and early March, and Brown, Dartmouth, and Tufts fill out the rest of the calendar.
The region is also unusually kind to beginners. The United Nations Association of Greater Boston runs a no-preparation one-day conference each fall and the largest middle school conference in New England, which means a student here can go from first committee to a four-day flagship without leaving the T.

The oldest and most prestigious collegiate Model UN in the world, drawing university delegates from roughly 80 countries. Listed for context: it is not open to high school students.
Both are run by Harvard’s International Relations Council, but HMUN in late January is for high school students while HNMUN in February is for university students. High schoolers looking at Harvard conferences want HMUN, and its applications typically open in the spring of the prior school year.
GBMUN in late September, run by the United Nations Association of Greater Boston, is designed for exactly that: it requires no preparation, hands students their topic guides and country profiles on the day, and seats grades 6 to 12 in separate rooms. Middle schoolers can follow it with UNAGB’s MSMUN at Northeastern in November.
HMUN and BosMUN both draw nationally ranked delegations, and large GA committees there can hold 100 to 300 delegates, so speaking time is contested. BosMUN has a reputation as the more approachable of the two, and both offer smaller specialized committees where newer delegates get more floor time than the headline GA numbers suggest.
