The Bay Area has a legitimate claim as the birthplace of high school Model UN: Berkeley MUN has run since 1952 and calls itself the oldest high school conference in the world. Between Berkeley’s two conferences, Stanford’s SMUNC, and a dense circuit of school-hosted events from San Jose to San Ramon, Northern California delegates rarely need to fly anywhere.
The circuit also has clear entry ramps. SFMUN in San Francisco and Tri-Valley MUN in the East Bay are built with first-time delegates in mind, and d.mun in Redwood Shores serves middle schoolers and even upper-elementary students.

Design Tech High School · Redwood City, CA
A deliberately low-stakes conference for middle school and upper-elementary students, from true-beginner General Assemblies to lighter specialized and crisis committees.
Berkeley Model United Nations. BMUN has run since 1952 and describes itself as the oldest high school Model UN conference in the world. It remains the Bay Area’s flagship, drawing over 2,000 delegates to campus each spring.
SFMUN at Lowell High School and Tri-Valley MUN in San Ramon are both one-day events designed with first-timers in mind, and SCVMUN in San Jose is a large but famously friendly January stop. Middle schoolers can start even earlier at d.mun in Redwood City. BMUN and SMUNC make more sense once a delegate has a conference or two behind them.
Fall opens with SMUNC at Stanford in November and Tri-Valley the same month, followed by BearMUN in early December. January brings SCVMUN and SFMUN, BMUN anchors early March, and DMUNC at UC Davis closes the season in May.
