Online Model UN Conferences & Programs

Online Model UN peaked during the pandemic and then thinned out fast. The virtual editions of the flagship conferences, NHSMUN, Harvard MUN, and MUNUC among them, were COVID-era measures and have all returned to in-person only, and several once-loved online programs have wound down. What remains is a short list of programs with real, current activity, which is exactly what this page tracks.

The survivors are genuinely useful, especially for students without a school club or in regions with a thin local circuit. Sessions run on Zoom, fees range from free to a few hundred dollars, and the better programs publish named staff, capped committee sizes, and real background guides. One caution: a cottage industry of pay-for-certificate operations runs near-weekly numbered online conferences. If a site’s main pitch is the certificate rather than the debate, skip it.

Common questions

Are online Model UN conferences worth it?

As a supplement, yes; as a substitute for in-person committee, only partly. Online conferences are excellent for reps, especially for students without a school club, and the free DMUN Foundation events make the cost of trying zero. But floor presence, note-passing, and bloc dynamics work differently in a physical room, so students aiming at competitive in-person conferences should treat online events as practice rather than the destination.

How do I spot a low-quality online MUN?

Look for what serious programs publish: named staff, specific dates, capped committee sizes, and real background guides. Be wary of operations running numbered online conferences nearly every week, one such site currently advertises its 272nd, where the product is effectively a participation certificate. A certificate from an event like that carries no weight with schools or admissions readers.

Can I still attend NHSMUN or Harvard MUN online?

No. The virtual editions of the major flagships were pandemic-era measures, and NHSMUN, HMUN, MUNUC, and their peers are back to in-person only. Any site still selling a virtual seat at those conferences is stale or unofficial. For a real online season, the active programs on this page are the current options.

What does online Model UN cost?

The range is wide but transparent among legitimate programs: DMUN Foundation conferences are free, Best Delegate’s year-long online club runs about 360 dollars including two virtual conferences, and its one-week virtual summer camps list at roughly 400 to 550 dollars, with financial aid available. Treat prices far outside that band, in either direction, as a prompt to look closer.
