Model UN Winter Academy
Six live classes over the winter break, from first placard to a full mock committee.
About this program
The Winter Academy puts the winter break to work. It is a complete Model UN foundation course fitted into two weeks: six two-hour classes on the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of December 21–23 and December 28–30, with Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day left free. Students learn how a committee runs, research an assigned country, write a position paper, give an opening speech, and draft clauses, then use all of it in a full mock committee on the final day. It suits students who have never done Model UN and first-year delegates with a spring conference coming up. There are three time options, for the US, the Gulf, and Asia, and it sits inside the winter break of the weekend course ladder, which resumes on January 9.
Is this the right fit?
- Who it's for
- Students new to Model UN who want a real start before their first conference · First-year delegates preparing for a spring conference · Families who want a structured, screen-light two weeks over the break (two hours a day, six days)
- Prerequisites
- None. Classes are grouped by age, and coaches adjust for students with a conference or two behind them.

Curriculum
01Day 1 · How committee works
What Model UN is, roles in the room, roll call, the speakers’ list, and the formal register. Every student speaks in the first hour, and countries are assigned for the week.
02Day 2 · Procedure in practice
Moderated and unmoderated caucus, the motions that open them, and the points a delegate can raise, drilled in short practice rounds until they are automatic.
03Day 3 · Research and the position paper
Finding a country’s real record with UN voting data and official statements, then turning it into a one-page position paper. Papers are submitted before the holiday break.
04Day 4 · Speeches
Opening speeches built on a hook, policy, and proposal skeleton, delivered on the clock and reworked with coach feedback. Returning to written position papers with comments.
05Day 5 · Blocs and clauses
Caucusing with purpose, forming blocs, and drafting preambulatory and operative clauses into a working paper, with amendments taught through live examples.
06Day 6 · Full mock committee
A complete simulated committee from roll call to voting procedure, chaired by a coach. Each student receives written feedback and a recommended next step on the course ladder.

Frequently asked questions
Does my child need any Model UN experience?+
No. The Winter Academy starts from what a committee is and how a first speech works. Students who have been to one or two conferences also fit well, because the week ends in a full mock committee and the feedback is individual.
Why are there no classes on December 24–25 or 31 and January 1?+
The six classes run Monday to Wednesday in the weeks of December 21 and December 28, so Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day are all free. Homework between the two weeks is short: finishing the position paper.
How does the early-bird price work?+
The Winter Academy is $384 for enrollments paid by the end of November 15, 2026 (US Eastern), and $480 after that. The price at checkout is the price charged; there is no code to enter.
Which time option should we choose?+
Option A (1–3 PM Eastern) suits families across the US. Option B (9–11 AM Eastern) is 6–8 PM in Dubai and works for the East Coast and the Gulf. Option C is 1–3 PM in Dubai and 5–7 PM in Singapore and Hong Kong. The schedule on this page shows every option in your own timezone.
What happens after the Winter Academy?+
Each student leaves with a written placement recommendation for the weekend course ladder. The recommendation names the course and track to join next term, and the free trial class is always available if you want a second look first.
